Special Olympics Seacoast Winter Games

On Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011,  Coe-Brown Northwood Academy hosted the Special Olympics Seacoast Winter Games. After canceling the games last year due to rain and loss of snow, this winter’s abundant snowfall ensured excellent conditions for this event. Over 200 athletes, excited and ready for a great day, competed in sprint and distance snow shoe and cross country ski events.

For his senior project, Patrick Graham coordinated the games with CBNA faculty member Shawn White in cooperation with Special Olympics of New Hampshire staff member Katie Diggins. Patrick’s efforts were key to the games’ success. Started by faculty member Brent Tkaczyk and SONH ten years ago, these games provide Special Olympics athletes from around the state an opportunity to compete in preparation for state, national, and sometimes international  events. The key to these games’ success is immense volunteer effort. Patrick Graham and Mr. White would like to express sincere gratitude to the more than 30 student volunteers, in large part representing Coe-Brown’s track and field team, whose effort is the core of that support. Special thanks also go out to Devin Jeanotte of the Northwood Crank Pullers Snowmobile Club for grooming the tracks,

Tim Chadbourn of Chadbourn’s Restaurant for coordinating food service, the Northwood Police Department for emergency services, Mal Estell for photography, the CBNA janitorial staff, and CBNA faculty and staff members Brent Tkaczyk, David Zink-Mailloux, Ryan Smith, and Karen Carey.
